SCRIPTURE:
“Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who
want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. But
I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then
throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.
“What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does
not forget a single one of them. And the
very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more
valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Luke
12:4-7 (NLT)
KEY VERSE:
What is the price of five
sparrows—two copper pennies? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And
the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more
valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. (v. 6-7)
THOUGHTS:
In a
world as big as ours it is easy to start feeling small and insignificant. That
feeling only grows as we are continually told by others that we are of little
value and that we need to step aside to make room for those of greater
importance. Today, we are reminded that
Jesus thinks we are of great significance, not because we are important but
because He knows each of us personally. Because of this fact alone we have no
reason to ever feel that way again.
PRAYER:
God of
love and compassion, thank You for reminding me that if You can find value in a
2-penny sparrow, You find value in me. You know how much we all struggle with
feelings of inadequacy. Empower me to do Your will in my world and to find
comfort in the thoughts that You not only know me but that You also love me.
Help me past my immaturity as I grow into the image of Christ. In the name of
Jesus I pray. Amen.
