SCRIPTURE:
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do
what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey,
it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what
you look like. But if you look
carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says
and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
James 1:22-25 (NLT)
KEY VERSE:
But don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do
what it says. (v. 22a)
THOUGHTS:
It really
doesn’t matter what we know or believe if it never is lived out in what we say
and do each day. We can talk about Christ all we want but until we make Him the
center of our lives, He’s just a name not a relative. Simple faith that is not
lived out in our everyday life makes our lives a sham and a pretense. Once we
know what the will and Word of God are for our lives, there’s only one thing
left to do – put it into practice!
PRAYER:
Lord, reading
this verse reinforces the proverb that we all learned as children – talk is
cheap. Your Word is there to guide us, challenge us, instruct us, and guard us.
Help us all to be faithful disciples of Your Word and live it out in our lives
each day. In the strong name of Jesus,
the Living Word, I pray. Amen.
